Hey guys as you know I love to celebrate a good holiday, especially one that is personal and representative of me and my culture!!! So I wanted to tell you about a new holiday introduced by the CROWN Coalition on June 30, 2020…. National CROWN Day!!!
That’s right ladies this day is all about our CROWN. So a little background the CROWN Coalition has decided to commentate July 3rd as National CROWN Day as it represents the 1 year anniversary of the signing of the CROWN (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural hair) Act. This is a law that prohibits discrimination based on hair styles or textures, for both employment and education purposes. It has currently been passed in 7 states with 9 states considering the passing of the act. There are several states where the CROWN Act has been introduced into legislation, but not yet passed.
But who is the CROWN Coalition? The coalition was founded by Dove, National Urban League, Color of Change, and the Western Center on Law and Poverty. The CROWN Coalition is “ dedicated to the advancement of anti-discrimination legislation across the United States”. We can continue to support this movement in mutiples ways visit thecrownact.com to share on social media, sign the petition, or send a letter to state and federal legislators using the template they have provided!
